Background of the Study
In the competitive world of digital marketing, visual content is paramount for capturing audience attention and conveying brand messages effectively. At Kano, Kano State, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and media organizations often struggle with high production costs and limited creative resources when designing promotional posters. An AI-based digital art system for automated poster design promises to revolutionize this process by leveraging machine learning algorithms to generate visually appealing posters quickly and cost-effectively (Ibrahim, 2023). This system can analyze input data such as brand identity, target demographics, and current design trends to produce customized poster designs that meet specific marketing objectives. By automating repetitive design tasks, the tool allows graphic designers to focus on higher-level creative strategies while ensuring consistency and quality across digital campaigns. Recent research indicates that AI-powered design systems can significantly enhance productivity and creativity in visual communications (Chinwe, 2024). Furthermore, the system’s adaptive capabilities enable it to improve over time as it learns from user feedback and evolving market trends, making it a sustainable solution for digital marketing challenges in the region (Afolabi, 2025). This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an AI-based digital art system for automated poster design, examining its impact on design quality, production efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing demand for high-quality digital posters in Kano’s competitive marketplace, traditional design processes remain labor-intensive, time-consuming, and expensive. Many SMEs and media outlets lack the in-house expertise and financial resources to produce professional-grade posters consistently (Ibrahim, 2023). The manual nature of current poster design workflows leads to variability in quality and prolonged production cycles, limiting the ability to respond swiftly to market trends. Although some digital tools exist, they often require extensive user input and do not fully automate the creative process. This inefficiency not only hampers brand promotion but also reduces overall competitiveness in the digital advertising space. The adoption of an AI-based system offers a promising solution, yet its application in Kano has been minimal due to technical, financial, and operational challenges (Chinwe, 2024). This study aims to address these issues by developing an AI-based digital art system capable of generating automated poster designs. It will evaluate the system’s performance in terms of design quality, production speed, and user engagement, and identify the challenges that need to be overcome for widespread implementation. The goal is to provide a scalable, cost-effective solution that empowers local businesses to enhance their digital marketing strategies.

Objectives of the Study
• To develop and implement an AI-based system for automated poster design.
• To evaluate its impact on design quality and production efficiency.
• To identify and propose solutions to technical and operational challenges.

Research Questions
• How does the AI system improve the quality and efficiency of poster design?
• What measurable benefits in production speed and consistency are observed?
• What challenges affect its implementation, and how can they be overcome?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it introduces an innovative AI-driven solution to digital poster design, potentially reducing costs and improving visual communication for businesses in Kano (Ibrahim, 2023). The findings will support SMEs and media organizations in adopting advanced digital art tools, enhancing their competitive edge in the digital marketplace (Chinwe, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the development and evaluation of an AI-based digital art system for automated poster design in Kano, Kano State. It focuses exclusively on poster design applications.

Definitions of Terms

  • AI-Based System: A digital platform that uses artificial intelligence to perform tasks autonomously.

  • Digital Art: Visual content created or enhanced using digital technology.

  • Automated Poster Design: The process of generating poster layouts and graphics through algorithmic methods.
